And no, I’m not just talking about Valentine’s Day! Your heart is one of the most important organs in your body, making sure that oxygen-rich blood is delivered to where it is needed to make sure you have your energy to go about your daily activities and binge-watch your favorite Netflix Show. It is important to take care of your heart, so of course there is an entire month dedicated to raising awareness for the heart.

Cardiovascular disease — including heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure — is responsible for one out of every three deaths. It is the No. 1 killer of American women and men, and it is a leading cause of serious illness and disability. This American Heart Month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Million Hearts®–a national effort to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the United States by 2017–are encouraging Americans to know their blood pressure, and if it’s high, to make control their goal.

High blood pressure often shows no signs or symptoms, which is why having your blood pressure checked regularly is important. It’s easy to get your blood pressure checked. You can get screened at your doctor’s office, at our pharmacy, or even check it yourself at home. and drugstores or even check it yourself at home, using a home blood pressure monitor.
