Influenza is a very serious illness that results in thousands of hospitalizations and deaths each year. The influenza vaccine is one of the best ways to protect yourself from the influenza virus and is therefore an important component of public health. Influenza symptoms can vary from very mild to serious with high-risk groups including older adults, people who live in facilities, and those with multiple chronic conditions.
Senior Citizens are one of the highest-risk groups for developing serious complications from influenza and so in order to facilitate understanding of the importance of the vaccine, Union Medical Pharmacy has teamed up with four Senior Communities in the area to offer free educational sessions on this subject. Our pharmacists discuss why vaccination is critically important to preventing the flu and the steps necessary to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.
